We are speaking today with Vicent Garcia, general manager of Vigar. The company, based in Spain and known for its colorful, fun and practical cleaning and kitchen tools, sells to more than 40 countries.

Mr. Garcia, where do you find inspiration when designing new products?
Our designs combine functionality with emotion. We stand out in the market because of our identity and personality.

Are there any specific designers, places or eras that influence you?
At Vigar we love transforming everyday utensils into colorful, entertaining, unexpected and unconventional objects and turning everyday moments into unique, positive and pleasant experiences awakened by emotion. By working day after day to improve the users’ experience of our products, ultimately, we aim to improve our customers’ quality of life.

How do you choose which idea to take to product development?
Each year we carefully research the trends that will influence the housewares market. Our aim is to create functional and practical products that are also entertaining and daring.

How do you identify the key user audience for your products?
We constantly work with our clients to anticipate their needs and provide feasible, affordable solutions. We are recognized by our clients and consumers internationally as the leading brand and point of reference for our designs that create utensils for daily use in the home.

Is there an approach or look that joins the functionality, form or emotional appeal of your product line?
With our 50 years of experience, we have evolved but our approach is based upon creating and designing practical objects that surprise and spread optimism in the home. We think about color—we surprise on the outside and are practical on the inside. We were born in the Mediterranean, and we enjoy being international, but what we like the most is being original.

How do new technologies such as 3D printing, influence your product design?  How do you use social media?
We use CAD design programs and 3D printing.  We also use social media to increase Vigar´s brand recognition and loyalty and for building valuable relationships with our customers.

Where are your products manufactured?
Most of our products are produced in our factory in China.

How do you see design’s importance in our industry as it moves forward?
Consumers have increasingly busy lifestyles, so products that are functional and are beautifully designed are becoming increasingly popular.

Thank you, Mr. Garcia, for sharing some of Vigar’s thinking with us. We look forward to seeing your latest introductions at your booth in Discover Design N8130.
