IHA interviews Bob Hoyler from Euromonitor International about his upcoming presentation at the 2017 International Home + Housewares Show.  At the Show, the Innovation Theater will feature 21 presentations over four days covering topics ranging from new product design to the smart home.

Euromonitor International is the world’s leading independent provider of strategic market research.  The company creates data and analysis on thousands of products and services around the world.  With offices across the globe, analysts in more than 100 countries, and market research on every key trend and driver, Euromonitor offers clients powerful access to the real story behind consumer change and identifies opportunities for emerging countries or developed economies.

As research associate for Euromonitor International, Bob provides insights on trends, retail developments and company activity shaping the consumer appliances, consumer electronics, home care, home and garden, and tissue and hygiene industries.  Currently based in Euromonitor International’s Chicago office, Bob holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin – Madison.

In his presentation at the Show, Bob will explore changing consumer and retail trends and their impact on the homewares and appliance markets for the years 2015-2021. He’ll offer a global perspective on current market sizes and growth rates for key categories within homewares and appliances in 42 countries with analysis of the largest and the fastest growing categories. An examination of regional trends in North American homewares and appliance sales will address how urbanization, connectivity and economic performance affect consumer behavior in the U.S., and the five-year forecast will identify opportunities through an understanding of the future consumer.

Bob, what is the most exciting or rewarding part of your work?  What fuels your inspiration?
The most exciting part of my work is that I am empowered, every day, to uncover new trends, insights, and idiosyncrasies in the marketplace.  I am constantly inspired by having a platform to share these discoveries with thought leaders in the industry who can act on new information and make a difference in the world.

In the past few years, what has changed most in your business? How has your company met these challenges in the way you do your work?
For more than 40 years, Euromonitor International has been a leader in the market research industry.  Since the financial crisis of 2008-2009, access to excellent market research has proven to be more important than ever for businesses and other organizations to successfully navigate an increasingly complex corporate and political landscape.  Euromonitor International has been there to provide insights to our clients that allow them to survive and thrive in these tumultuous, exciting and rapidly changing times.

Why did you choose to speak at the International Home + Housewares Show?
When I was invited to speak at the Show, I jumped at the opportunity.  Having a chance to meet, influence and be inspired by key players in the industry is truly an opportunity that I could not afford to let pass.

Tell us what you will be speaking about and how this topic is important for Show audiences.
I will be speaking about global trends in homewares and appliances.  This topic will be of interest to the thought leaders in the industry attending the Show, as it will give them a better understanding of the changes that are coming in the marketplace over the course of 2017 and beyond.

Global Trends in Homewares and Appliances to 2021
March 19, Sunday, 11:30 am – 12:20 pm
Innovation Theater, Lakeside Center, Room E350

This is your first time presenting at our Theater. What are you looking forward to most from speaking at the Innovation Theater?
Besides the honor of being able to present in and of itself, I am most looking forward to being able to share Euromonitor International’s insight with those individuals in the industry who are best placed to make an actual difference in the marketplace.

What are some of today’s trends or issues that new product development professionals and/or retailers face in the housewares market?
Among other things, I will be discussing the ways in which a rapidly urbanizing world will have an immense impact on the global housewares market.  Additionally, I will lead a detailed discussion of emerging trends in the U.S. in the consumer appliances, home improvement, home furnishings and homewares spaces.
