Deirdre Meyer

IHA speaks with Deirdre Meyer, general manager, North America, of Seattle-based meori. meori’s range of foldable organization and storage boxes will be shown in Discover Design N8637 at the 2017 International Home + Housewares Show.

meori® is the ‘go anywhere, hold anything’ storage solution designed to organize everyday life. In three simple steps, meori foldable boxes transform from slim stowaways to durable boxes with reinforced handles, capable of storing and carrying up to 65 lbs.

All meori foldable boxes come in stylish colors and patterns and feature two internal mesh pockets; an elastic band keeps the box closed. meori boxes are available in various sizes, allowing customers to choose the box that meets their personality and design taste. Accessories that extend the functionality of foldable box, including handles and coolers, are also available.

Deirdre, where do you find inspiration when designing new products?
Our team finds inspiration in our love of the outdoors, and the active lifestyles we live.

Every meori product is designed to be stylish and practical for modern families. The foldable boxes easily transition from use in any room of the home to use in the car, the store and even the outdoors.

How do you choose which idea to develop?
Functionality is the key component in every meori product. When we are determining which products to add to our collection we first test them ourselves. If a product doesn’t seamlessly integrate into our lives and make our day-to-day tasks easier, it won’t be a fit for our customers.

How do you identify the key user audience for your products?
With a versatile product like meori, focusing on one key user or audience is impossible. Our customers come from all walks of life, and have found uses for meori in nearly every room of the house. The uses for our foldable boxes are limitless, and we love hearing from customers all the unique ways they incorporate meori into their lifestyles.

Where are your products manufactured?
meori products are designed in Germany and manufactured in China. We are committed to sustainable business practices that are good for people and the planet. We offer customers a product that supports their intent to reduce, reuse and recycle. meori products are made of recycled and recyclable materials, are lead-free, and created using a fair and thoughtful manufacturing process.

How do you see design’s importance in our industry as it moves forward?
The industry is constantly changing and evolving, and for that reason it is essential to ensure product design is not just a physical appearance, but offers customers a unique and functional experience, as well.

Can you give us a preview of what you will be showing in your booth in Discover Design?
meori’s 2017 collection will include new box colors and patterns, including Pink Berry. Product bundles will also be introduced at retail in March 2017. Assorted bundles will couple the brand’s signature foldable boxes with compatible accessories. For example, the new Shopper Bundle combines the best-selling meori Medium Foldable Box with the carrying handle accessory. This bundle is a hands-free shopping gamechanger, and ideal for quick trips to the store or local farmer’s market. New accessories, such as reconfigured bottle inserts, will also be available to extend product functionality.
